SARASOTA/BRADENTON, FL – Immediate past mayor of North Port, Jacqueline Moore, has partnered with Goodwill Manasota to launch a community-wide campaign called “Kindness Community.” The effort is designed to make a positive impact by bringing our community together and encouraging acts of kindness.
The local Kindness Community campaign is modeled after a similar initiative launched in 2010 by California Mayor Tom Tait, who brought Anaheim residents together through daily acts of kindness. For the past seven years, "Make Kindness Contagious" has been celebrated in Anaheim to raise awareness of how an act of kindness can transform both the giver and the receiver; millions of kind acts have been performed and celebrated throughout the community.
“There is no better time to start this campaign than now to help bring our community together, especially in light of the degree of turmoil in our world today,” said Moore. “We cannot be in control of what others do but we can control our actions, so why not make them acts of kindness?"
A social media campaign will launch the first week of December, with 100 Goodwill Ambassadors – people who have made a commitment to share the mission of Goodwill with the greater community by volunteering at events, speaking on the organization's behalf, creating new fundraisers, and introducing others to Goodwill – sharing their acts of kindness and challenging family, friends, businesses and others to join the movement. A Facebook page, “Kindness Community,” and website, found at experiencegoodwill.org/kindness, have been created in order to provide platforms for people to share their stories and photos.
Moore appreciates the participation of the Goodwill Ambassadors, noting that the outreach effort should help to stimulate thoughtful conversations about the importance of kindness in daily lives. That Goodwill enjoys the public support of more than 1,000 Ambassadors was one of the primary reasons she selected Goodwill as her partner in the effort.
“Acts of kindness are being performed every day and this campaign will help to energize others,” said Veronica Brandon Miller, vice president of Goodwill Manasota. “With the assistance of our Goodwill Ambassadors, we can help people realize they have the power to bring about positive change and make our community a better place. We’re looking forward to sharing thousands of acts of kindness and hope the community will join in.”
Companies and organizations that have already signed up to keep the Kindness Community message strong are Seaside Bank, Florida Center for Early Childhood, iHeart Media, Children’s World, WWSB ABC 7, The Law Place, and many more.
Those who are interested in participating are encouraged to go online and sign a pledge of support for our Kindness Community, available at www.experiencegoodwill.org/kindness.
