Tammy got her job at Goodwill through the Job Connection. She had been in an abusive marriage and realized that she needed to make a major change in her life.
When she first came to the Job Connection, Tammy did not feel confident about her interviewing skills at all. Goodwill’s Career Development Facilitator encouraged her, practiced with her, and provided her with tips on how to rephrase some of her answers for general interview questions. She learned how to give an honest answer, but to state it positively and professionally, rather than personally. Tammy had many opportunities to practice so she would feel more confident when the real interview took place. When it came time for her real interview with the Goodwill Recruiter, Tammy was hired!
Tammy was very excited about her new job. She met with her GoodPartner Coach as soon as she started and began working on becoming a certified Role Model Worker. She had a few classes to complete first, but then she passed her Demonstration Assessment with flying colors.
There were times when it was hard for Tammy after leaving her husband. Making a living with one income and finding an affordable home in a safe location was challenging. At one point, she requested assistance to move into a more affordable place and received that assistance with the help of her GoodPartner Coach. There have also been challenges as a single mom raising a teenage daughter alone.
Despite the day-to-day challenges, Tammy still shows up every day with a smile on her face and works hard to do her best. She is very thankful to have a full time job and knows that she is valued as a team member by those she works with. She is thankful for the help she received from the Job Connection and her GoodPartner Coach. Tammy is especially grateful to Goodwill for giving her a job and the support she needs to keep moving forward. It’s what we do…
