Robert originally visited Goodwill Manasota’s Connection office in October of 2014. At the time Robert was working with a carnival that was traveling around the state, but he longed to obtain a full time job in Manatee County. He had previously submitted several applications around Bradenton and Sarasota with no luck. He had some previous criminal charges and he thought that was the reason why he was having a hard time getting a job. Robert started working with a Career Development Facilitator at the Job Connection office, but he had to go back on the road because he needed the money and the carnival was expecting him.
Robert returned to the Job Connection office a few more times over the next two years but always ended up returning to the carnival.
This past June, Robert returned one last time and began working with Lori, the Goodwill Career Development Facilitator, to look for work and started submitting applications to as many jobs as he could. One position in particular was at a local retirement home. The Job Connection Team advocated by writing a letter of recommendation, and two weeks later, Robert interviewed for a dietary aid position and was hired.
Robert’s perseverance, coupled with the assistance of the Job Connection Team, finally resulted in Robert obtaining his dream job in Bradenton. He is now beginning his search for a permanent address and is very excited about not having to travel anymore.
Robert is glad he was able to get some assistance so he can finally settle down in one place. It’s what we do . . .
