Max had worked for Goodwill for a long time and was very thankful for the jobs he had in Transportation and now in Salvage.
Because of various emergencies recently, Max was on a strict budget. That meant he had no money for anything extra. Now, his mechanic told him that his tires were dangerously threadbare and Max did not know how he could afford to replace all four tires. His car was important to him since that’s how he got to work each day. He was not sure what to do.
So, Max asked his Good Partner Coach (GPC), a free life coach offered to all Goodwill Manasota employees, about resources. His coach worked with him to file an application with United Way for the necessary repairs to his vehicle. It took a few weeks to get information and the requisite estimates from three different tire stores. Max was getting worried that he would blow out a tire while he was waiting for approval. At long last, he got his paperwork together. His GPC scanned all the documents over to the United Way fiscal agent. His Coach even called the tire store for Max about the United Way program and about what Max, Goodwill, and the tire store would do together and described how the payment would be made.
Max’s request was approved! The tire store got the check and made an appointment with Max. Finally, Max could commute to work without worrying about the trip – he had four new tires! His GPC noticed that Max was a lot happier at work the next day. Max was glad he got access to the resources he needed to keep his job. It’s what we do . . .
