When James came into the Job Connection at Turning Points he seemed depressed and ready to give up. He had exhausted his resources with JFCS, Seasons of Sharing, and Turning Points Yellow Ribbon Veterans Programs. He still could not find a job, his truck was on its last legs, and he was on the verge of losing his home. So, when Lori, Goodwill’s Career Development Specialist, told him she thought she could help, he was skeptical. But he decided he could give his job search one last shot.
Lori registered James with the Goodwill Job Connection program and began meeting with him on a daily basis. She helped him practice new interview skills and asked him if he was interested in a Small Engine Repair Class that was being offered through Goodwill. He joined the class and since then, he arrives to every class early to help set up and stays late for cleanup.
Pretty soon, things seemed to come together for James; Lori helped him get an interview with a local concrete company. He aced the interview and was hired that same day. With the help of Goodwill and the Goodwill Veterans program, James was able to get the tools he needed for his job and he began proving to his employer that they had made a good choice when they hired him.
Today James has caught up on his rent, registered and insured his truck, and even managed to make a few repairs on it. He continues to thrive at both his job and his life and is once again feeling good about himself and his future. He is glad he found the Job Connection when he was feeling discouraged and ready to give up. It’s what we do…
