October is here and that means Halloween is just around the corner!! I LOVE Halloween and all the fun that comes with it - spooky decorations, scary movies, candy, and of course COSTUMES! If you're anything like me, store bought costumes aren't your favorite and homemade is always the way to go. I will never forget when I was in elementary school and my friend's sister wore the same store bought costume as me. I accessorized better (of course) but the horror and trama of unintentional identical costumes has lingered.
I know that coming up with an original costume can be super stressful for some people but it shouldn't be! Part of the beauty of Halloween is that you can be ANYTHING. Seriously, anything. One year I was carrot and it was quite possibly my favorite costume ever. Another year I decided I didn't want to wear the same costume to two different parties so the day of the second party I took a trip to Goodwill and created a whole second set of costumes for both myself and my husband. I was a glamourous lady and he was an old-timey tramp. Get it? Lady and the Tramp!
If you're feeling stuck and aren't sure what to be, try visiting your local Goodwill and seeing what inspires you. Perhaps a gown will catch your eye or a leopard print top might strike your fancy. Already have a costume in mind? Maybe this is your zombie year but you need that perfect "I died in this outfit" look. Find that look at Goodwill! Have a favorite character from a book, movie, or TV show? Find the components of their signature outfit then carry something specific to them. Don't want to put in too much effort? Buy some fake blood and vampire teeth (which we have at Goodwill in our Halloween new goods section) then wear whatever you want!
In the past I have found that it's pretty easy to build an entire costume around one or two key pieces. Sometimes you can find the pieces in a store and sometimes you have to get crafty and make something. Either way, the sky is the limit when coming up with a costume. You don't have to be something human, heck you don't even have to be something living or animate! As I mentioned above, one year I was a carrot. A carrot! Another year I was a clock. The point is, Halloween is the one time of year when you really can be ANYTHING. So what are you waiting for?! Start brainstorming and head to the closest Goodwill ASAP!
And if you still reeaally don't want to come up with a unique costume, we have costume in a bag options too. Just don't get mad when someone else shows up wearing the same thing!
