Changing Lives Through the Power of WORK

I often write about how Goodwill can help you save money, the FREE classes we offer, and the ways we give back to our local community because I think it’s important to highlight that Goodwill is so much more than just a thrift store. BUT for this week’s post, I decided it was high time to remind everyone that our core mission is to change lives through the power of WORK.

Goodwill Manasota has almost 800 employees and we are always looking for more. We want to help our community by providing individuals with a steady paycheck and the skills, training, and support they need to make better lives for themselves.

For more info on the subject of jobs at Goodwill, I sat down with three lovely ladies from our HR department, Adriana Restrepo – Team Lead of Recruitment and Selection, Angela Dean – Onboarding and Talent Acquisition Manager, and Sara Gingery – HR Generalist.

My first question for the ladies was pretty straightforward… What types of jobs are available at Goodwill?

Immediately all three started rattling off positions including cashiers, pricers, hangers, sorters, donation site attendants, donor greeters, truck drivers, custodians, etc. Basically anything you can think of in the realm of customer service, retail, warehouse, or logistics. Goodwill Manasota is a big operation with a LOT of moving parts and without reliable, friendly, and dedicated workers, there is no way all those parts would keep moving as smoothly as they do.

In return for keeping those parts moving smoothly, the team members of Goodwill Manasota are offered all kinds of employee benefits which led me to my next question for Adriana, Angela, and Sara… What are the benefits of working for Goodwill?

Again, the ladies were quick to answer being sure to point out that Goodwill Manasota offers way more benefits than most jobs provide their employees. All team members receive a Good Partner Coach (which is the equivalent of a Life Coach), generous paid time off, tuition assistance, health insurance, discounts both in the store AND with partnering organizations via a program called Perks at Work, a 401k option, and skills and leadership development programs. Sara pointed out that we are also big believers in promotion from within and always look at existing employees when management positions become available rather than seeking to hire externally. Additionally, all positions are full-time with a guaranteed 40 hours per week!

My final question was simple… If someone wants to work at Goodwill what should they do?

This question was met with a unanimous “Go to our website!!” It’s that simple.
