Mardi Gras is this Tuesday! It’s never been a holiday I’ve paid much attention to in the past but THIS YEAR is a whole different story. Now that I work at Goodwill, Mardi Gras is a big deal.
For the past twelve years Goodwill’s largest fundraiser of the year has been their annual Mardi Gras Gala. It’s one of those events that I have definitely heard of, even before I worked here, and from what I understand it’s a TON of fun!
Being that this is my first year attending and I’ve never celebrated Mardi Gras before, I’m not really sure what to wear. After all, gala is in the title but from what my co-workers have told me it’s not your typical super formal gala. So I did what any uncertain party-goer would do, I asked my friend (and co-worker) what SHE was going to wear.
She gave me all the details on her outfit (which sounds fabulous) and then gave a few pointers on what to look for in an outfit of my own. Her first piece of advice was to try and find something either gold/yellow, green, or purple. If you can’t find something in one of those colors, go with any jewel tones or bright, vibrant colors. If bright colors aren’t your thing, look for something sparkly. And more important than anything else, beads, feathers, masks, and hats are a MUST and will make any outfit Mardi Gras ready!
With her advice in mind I took a trip into the store and here are a few potential items I found…
